A Financial Services Organisation

The Challenge
One of the UK’s top financial services firms had completed the first stage (of six stages) of a major systems development and migration programme. The first stage had taken more than 12 months (including systems design and testing) and had proved very difficult for the project teams, development teams and business specialists. For the remainder of the programme to succeed a different approach was required.

Our Response
We designed an approach to reduce the cycle time (from agreeing business requirements to developing the systems) from more than 9 months down to 3 months. A collaboration hub was set up to enable the engagement of the right business and technology people at the right time, and to accelerate the creation of business requirements, functional specifications and technical specifications. System redevelopment due to poor definition of requirements was reduced by over 90%.

Timeframe
Stages two and three were completed in 7 months. The method was transferred to the organisation and used by it to implement the remaining stages (with some support from us). Collaboration hubs and this accelerated method are still used by the organisation for process and systems design.
